Who we are
Laird Street Baptist Church has been part of the Birkenhead community for over 100 years.
We're a Baptist church, which means we believe in following Jesus together as a church family, reading the Bible for ourselves, and making space for anyone who wants to explore faith, no strings attached. We also believe in full water baptism.
What we believe
We believe in one God, that Jesus Christ is His Son who died and rose again, and that the Bible is God's word to us. We follow the Holy Spirit, believe faith is personal, church is family, and grace is for everyone.
Our story
Our Christian fellowship has met here in the north of Birkenhead for over a hundred years!
At first a mission of Grange Baptist Church, the fellowship originally met in Cathcart Street. In 1910 the church moved to our new home at the present location (Laird Street) to be in the heart of community. The building suffered bomb damage in WWII and was rebuilt in the 1950’s.
Our Team
Cathy Buntin has led Laird Street Baptist Church since 2012.
A born again Christian and serving as pastor of Laird Street Baptist Church for the last twelve years. I am widowed and have two amazing adult children Paul and Kim and two beautiful granddaughters, Hannah and Alexie and one step-Grandchild, who is nineteen, Isabella.
I grew up in a small Brethren Church and went from the age of 3 years, I gave my life to Jesus at the age of 15 during a youth mission week at the church through the ministry of George Tryon. I have been a Christian for over 50 years and my love for Jesus never wavers.
It has been a privilege serving the Lord and the church and seeing God build and grow his Church. I started in the church as a member and was invited to join the leadership of deacons and then became church secretary for a number of years.
I felt God calling me to study the word and having done 4 years at theological college was then asked to voluntarily Pastor the church at Laird Street. It has been both a privilege and a pleasure to undertake this role.

Our Community
